Testing Process Information

The Testing Process at the Raby Institute

Sometimes our providers feel more like detectives than doctors, hunting down clues in order to make a diagnosis. One of the tools they frequently use are functional medicine tests.

These specialty tests go beyond standard blood work for a more in-depth look at what’s happening within the body. They include tests for:

  • Oncology
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Genetics
  • Allergy and other sensitivities
  • Hormones
  • Neurotransmitters
  • Lyme disease
  • Adrenal dysfunction
  • Parasites
  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Inflammation markers
  • And more…

Third-party lab companies provide the results for each test, and our providers constantly vet the companies to make sure their offerings continue to benefit our patients. If your provider recommends one of these tests for you, you’ll review the test during your appointment, and then take it home to complete it and send it in.

From there, the company bills you directly. The Raby Institute isn’t involved in the payment process, nor do we profit off of these tests. They are purely used as a tool for our providers as they formulate your diagnosis.

Once you’ve sent in your test, the lab company will contact the Raby Institute with results in approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on the test. A patient care coordinator will then call you to schedule an appointment with your provider, who will give you a copy of your results. Because these tests are more involved, our providers prefer to review them with you in person.

This is a more involved process than for our standard lab tests that look at things like cholesterol, vitamin, and nutrient levels in the blood. These are the blood draws you undergo on-site in our lab. Results are ready within 7-10 days of the time of your draw.

Your provider reviews your results first. If your results are normal, your provider will post them to your patient portal. You’ll only receive a call if your results are abnormal or if you had a question.

Regardless of which tests your provider thinks would help most in deciphering your diagnosis, they all play an important part-as do you. Please keep in touch with your provider throughout the process if you have any questions or concerns. We’re always available at 312.276.1212 or via your patient portal.
