Integrative Pediatrics, Medical Acupuncture

 

Dr. Chuck DuMont has held a long interest in complementary/alternative medicine, and for nearly 15 years that interest has influenced his integrative approach to pediatrics. His pediatric practice is supplemented by training in mind/body medicine, medical acupuncture and homeopathy, in addition to other integrative modalities. Dr. DuMont places high value on the interaction he has with his patients and their parents. By taking the time to answer questions, explain practices and really listen, Dr. DuMont builds healing relationships based on trust and good will.

 

Early is his life, Dr. Dumont taught himself meditation and mind/body techniques. As a physician, he became professionally committed to integrative medicine as he began to see the ways in which conventional Western medicine was limited in its effectiveness of treating the whole person

 

Dr. Dumont graduated from the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia in 1988. He joined the faculty at Columbus Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University in 1994 after completing both his pediatric residency and pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at those institutions. In 2000, he came to Loyola University Medical Center as associate professor in the department of Pediatrics. He most recently served as director of the Pediatric Integrative Medicine Program, medical director of pediatric nutrition and medical director of Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center at Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center. He is also medical director of the Easter Seals DuPage Feeding Clinic.

 

Initially, he trained in mind/body medicine at the Harvard Mind/Body Institute. Dr. Dumont then went on to receive formal training in alternative modalities including medical hypnosis (American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Society of Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics), acupuncture (UCLA Medical Acupuncture Program) with additional training in Korean Hand Acupuncture (a needless form of acupuncture), and homeopathy (American Institute of Homeopathy and the Center for Education and Development of Clinical Homeopathy - CEDH).

 

Dr. DuMont is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board Homeotherapeutics. He is a current member of the Medical Advisory Board for Naperville school system, the Advisory Board of Easter Seals DuPage, Medical Advisory Board of Organic School Project, the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (member Chicago area chapter), the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (founding member Illinois chapter), the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (member Illinois chapter). With his extensive experience in many areas of complementary/alternative medicine he has lectured nationally and internationally.
