Cynthia M. Kent Psy.D, MA, BCIA-EEG

Integrative Behavioral Health Specialist, Neurofeedback, Biofeedback, Brain Mapping, Cognitive Enhancement Training, Cerebral Blood Flow Training, Stress Reduction and Relaxation, Meditation

Cynthia Kent is an integrative therapist specializing in health psychology, and clinical and neuropsychological disorders. Certified in biofeedback (neurofeedback), Dr. Kent brings a unique practice to the Raby Institute that involves exercising and re-training the brain to treat neurological conditions such as ADHD and Autism.

When Dr. Kent was 5, she had a partial hearing loss due to  an accident, which forced her to teach herself to be more internal and observant of people's behaviors. In a way she developed a type of 6th sense for interpreting the world around her in order to function. This experience inspired her to study biopsychology and the area of integrative medicine and behavior. Driven by her passion, Dr. Kent is compassionate, empathetic, and a solutions-oriented professional dedicated to providing exceptional care and implementing effective treatment plans for children, adolescents, and adults who are looking to improve their quality of life.

Dr. Kent received her doctorate in clinical psychology and her masters in psychology from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago.  She is also a graduate of DePaul University and has participated in numerous workshops and seminars relating to peak performance, biofeedback, EEG-biofeedback, stress reduction and relaxation, meditation, quantitative electroencephalography (brain mapping) and cognitive enhancement.

Her practice of neurofeedback is unique in the sense that it is a way to retrain the brain without the use of medicines. The practice reorganizes the brain in a more natural approach, giving people with neurological disorders an alternative treatment. In the case neurofeedback, though, the treatment is permanent, and if done effectively patients are essentially "cured" and able to live with a reduction or elimination of medicine for their entire lives.

The process is safe and can actually be beneficial to anyone - including people who just want to improve the functioning of their brain. It's a way of training yourself to use your brain more efficiently and with more potential. The practice has been around for hundreds of years, and Dr. Kent has been doing it for more than 10. Despite the inspiring results of treatment, there are few doctors who use this practice - Dr. Kent being one of the few in Illinois.

Dr. Kent has spoken on several occasions to organizations regarding Attention Deficit Disorder and the effectiveness of her neurophysiological approach.  She is a member of the American Association of Psychology, International Society for Neuronal Regulation, Biofeedback Institute of America, and the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.

Prior to joining the Raby Institute, Dr. Kent spent 10 years in private practice as the director and founder of EEG Spectrum Analysis, Inc. There she specialized in training methods that gently reinforced positive brain activity and minimized unproductive activity. She feels that being at the Raby Institute is an amazing experience because of all the disciplines that come together to support a holistic way of healing patients.
