Yoga at Raby InstituteThe Raby Institute offers Hatha Yoga classes for all levels  of practice: beginner, intermediate and advanced.  During these sessions you will learn the basics of Hatha Yoga, which utilizes a gentle flow of poses to improve proper   alignment and breathing techniques in order to increase strength, stamina and improve flexibility. Please join us and empower yourself with this self-regulating practices for stress relief!

3-Week Courses: Unwind with Yoga: yoga for the lower back & the anxious mind

 

Discover how yoga can help you ease, manage and prevent discomfort or pain in the lower back and unwind the patterns of an anxious and overworked mind.

 

The 3 Week courses will articulate around a similar outline with some variations:

  • Pelvic and core muscles micro-movement strengthening exercises
  • Yin yoga poses (cross of Hatha yoga poses and Chinese Medicine), practiced seated and lying down for the lower back, pelvis and hips.  Releases deep muscular tension, works on the connective tissues of the body to improve range of motion in the joints, blood, lymph flow and stamina. 
  • Guided deep relaxation and breathing techniques to unwind the nervous system and provide self-care tools for the anxious and overworked mind.

 

The 3 Week Courses are offered based on interest.

Available as:

  • - One-on-one sessions (75 minutes) - $360/person/3 week course
  • - Group classes (90 minutes) - $150/person/ 3 week course

Group classes will be held with a minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 6.

Saturdays: 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.; April 14th, 21st, 28th and May 5th, 12th and 19th.

Why yoga for the lower back and the anxious mind?

 

There are many contributing factors to a loss of vitality and health in the lumbar spine: aging, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, poor posture, genetics, excessive body weight or physical exertion, sedentary life, diet, lack of exercise, poor sleep hygiene, post-effects of trauma, surgery, injury, sciatica, pregnancy to name a few.  Low back pain can also generate various associated effects: kyphosis (rounded shoulders, caved in chest affecting, circulatory, respiratory and digestive functions), referred pain in the neck - headaches, weakening of abdominal muscles affecting digestion and posture, decreased muscular strength and mobility in the pelvic area affecting urinary, sexual and reproductive functions.  There is also a strong correlation between lower back pain and discomfort and a mind prone to angst or too much of " the fight or flight response ".  Anxiety affects our cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological and digestive functions but also impairs our sense of safety and groundedness housed in the sacral and lumbar regions of our body.

Instructor: Katia Mazuy, RYT. RCYT, IAYT is a registered Yoga Alliance yoga teacher who has been facilitating yoga instruction and therapy since 2006. Her classes emphasize the individual as a whole to enable her students to integrate the health benefits of yoga into their daily life.
