Stress and the Adrenals

(May 2009)

Food can function as an adrenal tonic which gently corrects the adrenal fatigue created by modern life stresses. A balanced diet consisting of poultry, fish, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, raw seeds, and nuts will tonify your adrenals and enhance your resiliency to stress.

Three vitamins to focus on and where you can find them:

  • Pantothenic Acid (B-5): Brown rice, sunflower seeds, soybeans, broccoli, egg yolk, salmon, sweet potatoes, and lentils.
  • Vitamin A: Spinach, dandelion greens, carrots, yams, parsley, egg yolk, collard greens, Swiss chard, kale, cantaloupe, red bell pepper, and broccoli.
  • High Potassium/Low sodium: Avocado, raw tomato, potato, lima beans, dried apricots, banana, cantaloupe, peach, chicken, salmon, and cod.

Remember: Limit refined sugar, caffeine, and alcohol intake, and try to drink ½ your weight in ounces of water every day.

Ask Dr Raby about your Vitamin D levels, and about Magnesium or B-complex supplementation.
