Dr. Raby Featured in Harper's Bazaar and ELLE Magazine

In case you missed it, here's a recap of the appearances Theri Griego-Raby, MD, ABHM, made in Harper's Bazaar and ELLEmagazine earlier this year. Dr. Raby encouraged readers to "win the fight against germs by supercharging your natural defenses" in a feature on immune-boosting foods.

The feature highlighted 13 foods and spices guaranteed to help keep readers healthy when everyone else seems to be coughing and sneezing. Dr. Raby and Iron Chef judge Candice Kumai tout the health benefits of each item - from Greek yogurt to turmeric.

Turmeric, for example, "is best known for giving Indian curry its distinct color and taste - it is rich in a compound called curcumin, and this delicious yellow seasoning has a high antioxidant value and is a powerful anti-inflammatory," Dr. Raby tells the magazine.

Also on the list:

• Fermented foods
• Zinc
• Garlic
• Avocado
• Super greens
• Ginger
• Sweet potatoes
• Protein
• Elderberry juice
• Peppers
• Salmon

Each of these foods contains an assortment of vitamins and minerals to keep the immune system strong. Probiotics help things move through the digestive system while selenium, manganese, and vitamin B6 fight bacteria and protect the heart. A well-rounded diet could easily include all of these items in a week's time.

Get started with this day's worth of meal plans, which includes eight of the 13 items on Harper's list:

Greek yogurt sprinkled with almonds

Avocado salad with roasted peanuts, arugula, and ginger dressing (recipe via Tree Hugger)

Salmon with basil, spinach, and quinoa (recipe via Lattes and Leggings)
