Jessi Shapiro

Retail Coordinator

Jessi was born in a rural Pennsylvania town and lived on a 300 acre working farm and apple orchard.  She grew up learning about herbal and functional medicine from her father and mother who are both practicing artists and have a large organic garden and herbal greenhouse.

As a child, Jessi was taught to put comfrey on sprains, aloe on sunburns and to gargle with capsicum and garlic when she had a sore throat.  Although some of the remedies were not that palatable to her as a child, she has learned to incorporate this holistic background into her urban lifestyle.

Jessi studied Studio Art, receiving her BA at Bard College in Annandale-On Hudson, New York.  She moved to Chicago in 2004 to pursue a MFA in Drawing and Painting which she completed in 2006.  Jessi continues to nurture her artistic practice and maintains a studio space in an artist co-op warehouse in the West Loop area.

Before joining the Raby Institute, Jessica worked as a buyer for the Whole Foods Market Supplement and Bodycare Department  at the South Loop Store.

Jessi brings her creative talents and wealth of knowledge to Alma at the Raby Institute and wishes to provide patients with the highest quality supplements and wellness supplies.  Please let her know if you have any questions about our supplements or eclectic assortment of wellness and gift items.

In her spare moments, Jessi loves to cook with her husband, James, and play with her dog, Agnes in the park across from their West Town apartment.  She also enjoys collecting old jewelry and has the guilty pleasure of watching 1970's horror movies year round because she believes they should not be reserved just for Halloween.

Early traditional Chinese medicine stemmed from Taoist masters who developed an extraordinary sense of the body and its workings through their many hours of meditation.
