The Long Road to a New Healing Home

The Raby Institute's New Space Opens September 7th

(August 2010)

Good things come to those who wait.

Magnificent MileWe are realizing the truth of these simple, but profound words. The patients who have visited the Raby Institute at our temporary office on E. Erie understand the kind of limited resources we have been operating with for the past 22 months! Through it all, we have held a vision for a permanent home for the Raby Institute that would embody our health philosophy and unique approach to integrative healing. After much delay we are more than thrilled to announce the opening of our new, permanent home at 500 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 450 on September 7th!

It has been a long road leading to this point, but it was worth the wait. Our new space will open right after Labor Day weekend and will be the premiere center for integrative healing in Chicago. We worked closely with Chicago-based LEED certified architect Ferdinand Dimailig and his team at BOX Studio to create an architectural design that is unique, functional and fluid. Maria Griego Raby - Dr. Raby's sister and President and Owner of New Mexico based Contract Associates - along with designer Jennifer Jones contributed to the interior design of the space, working with Dr. Raby to hand-select each piece of furniture and every fixture to create a soothing, beautiful environment that is unlike any other healthcare facility in the city. Through our collaborative design process, this welcoming and sacred space is truly reflective of our philosophy for a full service integrative healing process for our clients. Every detail has been carefully attended to - from beautiful works of art, music and lighting to environmentally conscious materials - to create a place of beauty, serenity and vibrancy that keeps our clients healthy, and the health of the planet in mind.

The space is designed to be harmonious and welcoming. With a tea bar, and a multi-purpose room that can be used for meditation as well as education, patients can be comfortable and relaxed. "It was our intention to create a space that would alleviate the fear people feel when coming to visit their doctor. We wanted to create a welcoming environment that inspired positive associations, relaxation, rejuvenation, rather than stress and anxiety," Dr. Theri Raby states, "We want our clients to feel at home here - like they can stop by and enjoy a cup of tea with us or pop in for an afternoon meditation on their lunch break."

They can also learn about healthy meal preparation in the Raby Institute's teaching kitchen as well as get a full lab work up in the on-site lab. "We really wanted to combine the diagnostic and scientific strengths of western medicine with the eastern traditions of holistic health and wellness, including spiritual and emotional well-being. And we wanted the space to reflect that blend as well," Dr. Raby added.

The Raby Institute offices will not be seeing patients the week of August 30th, however we will continue to take phone calls, answer emails, fill prescriptions and schedule appointments as we transition into our new home on Michigan Avenue. We will begin seeing patients in our new space on September 7th. We encourage you to stop by to visit, browse our retail space and share a cup of tea!

"Dr. Raby is warm, genuine, extremely personable and listens well."
